Every January 1st, most of us do our best to prepare a new chapter in our lives by striving toward a goal we hope to hit within the following year. While many of us fall short, that’s no reason to give up on the concept.

Setting New Year’s resolutions is also a good way to take your manufacturing company to the next level too. If you need help getting started, consider these four ideas for improving your company in 2015.

1. Ask For More Referrals

There are only so many ways to bring in new business as a manufacturer. Obviously, there are all kinds of options as far as marketing goes, but are you utilizing the power of referrals? Few things can compare to the kind of response you’ll get from asking a loyal customer to refer you to another business they may work with or one of their own customers who may need your products as well. .

Set a goal of doing this at least once a week, though the more times you do this, the better. Any time you fall short of this goal, make a promise that you’ll then give a referral instead. The good news is that this consequence will still help increase your network’s reach and possibly help you find more business too.

2. Build Stronger Relationships With Your Channel Partners

Another resolution that can take your business places in 2015 is to build bigger, better and stronger relationships with your channel partners. One simple way to foster relationship building is to resolve to simply improve  communication. This could involve emails, phone calls, or even scheduled virtual meetings over Skype.

To get even better results from this resolution, consider Partner Relationship Management technology to allow your partners to access the information they need - when they need it. Sometimes referred to as PRM software, this digital asset will make it easier for you to manage your channel partnerships and ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

3. Get Social

Everyone knows that social media has become more than just a way for friends and family to keep in touch. It’s also become a great way for businesses to connect with their partners and customers. However, when it comes to social media marketing, most people don’t picture it benefiting companies like manufacturers and other B2B entities.

You have to appreciate that your network is  spending time on the web too. You also need to realize that having a social media page is as important as a blog was 10 years ago. These pages have become a great platform for building trust and becoming an authority in your industry. As far as inbound marketing goes, it may also be the best method available for getting the attention of new customers.

4. Show Your Gratitude

Even in manufacturing, gratitude matters. Increasing customer loyalty is always a smart business move. In 2015, make sure you’re expressing your gratitude to your current clients before you spend too much time working on bringing in more. Replacing lost customers is always more expensive than keeping the ones you have. Sometimes, simply keeping in contact with your current partners and clients is all it takes to help them know they’re appreciated. Don’t be afraid to ask them what you can do better and hold yourself accountable to doing so.

Are there other New Year’s resolutions that may help out your company in 2015? If so, write them down now. Brainstorm them and others with trusted members of your team. Then start 2015 off on the right foot by working toward them every day.
